Arcadia Cold fulfills launch goal of creating national US platform in one year Arcadia Cold Storage & Logistics completes a year-long goal by opening five new large-scale cold storage warehouses.

  • With a total of 60 million cubic feet across Hazleton, PA; Fort Worth, TX; Atlanta, GA; Phoenix, AZ; and Reno, NV, the company is now serving customers in these critical distribution markets.

  • Each facility is fully racked and designed to meet the demands of today's food supply chain.

  • Arcadia Cold's mission is to create meaningful value for customers and help them meet their strategic objectives, establishing 'The New Age of cold chain.'

  • The company is raising industry standards in customer service and has developed new, high-quality cold storage assets when there are many aging buildings in the United States. (link)

Amancio Ortega’s Pontegadea pays $113M for Hialeah cold storage Amancio Ortega, the Spanish billionaire and founder of global clothing retailer Zara, is expanding his cold storage business through his real estate family office, Pontegadea.

  • The firm recently acquired its second Hialeah freezer facility in seven months, the Bridge Point Cold Logistics Center, for $113M.

  • The 312,000-square-foot warehouse, located at 3995 West 108th Street, is fully leased to FreezPak, a New Jersey-based food logistics company.

  • This acquisition is part of Pontegadea's broader investment strategy in the U.S., where its commercial real estate holdings exceed $1 billion.

  • In June, Pontegadea acquired another cold storage facility in Hialeah from Blackstone for $43.3 million.

  • Pontegadea's investments are part of Ortega's diversification strategy away from retail, as indicated by his increased investments in global real estate and energy. (link)

Carrier Transicold, GIZ partner to advance cold chain development and decarbonisation in Costa Rica and South Africa Carrier Transicold, a provider of refrigeration systems and services, and GIZ, a German development agency, have announced an agreement to advance cold chain development and decarbonization in Costa Rica and South Africa.

  • The announcement was made at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

  • The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Carrier Transicold and GIZ will focus on training technicians in the two countries to use sustainable reefer solutions.

  • This initiative is part of Carrier's broader efforts to improve the transport and shipping of temperature-controlled cargoes and aligns with the company's 2030 ESG goals to help its customers avoid more than 1 gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions and to positively impact communities by alleviating hunger and food waste.

  • Earlier in the year, the company signed an agreement with the Telangana State Trade Promotion Corporation to advance cold chain development and training in India. (link)
