VITAIRA and Hommel Pharma join forces to expand European pharma and healthcare logistics platform VITAIRA has acquired Hommel Pharma GmbH & Co. KG to advance the development of a European temperature controlled specialty logistics group serving the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

  • Hommel Pharma, headquartered in Dülmen, Germany, specializes in logistics and fulfilment solutions including storage, picking, and distribution of pharmaceuticals, medical products, and consumer health goods.

  • The partnership focuses on standardizing quality and compliance processes for temperature controlled supply chains, building scalable fulfilment structures for complex healthcare value chains, and enhancing digital process integration for improved traceability.

  • VITAIRA CEO Andreas Thiede noted that the Dülmen location strengthens the company's DACH region presence while providing strategic access toward the Benelux countries.

  • Managing Director Thomas Möbus said the combination brings clear standards and digital transparency together with a European growth perspective, positioning Dülmen as a building block for scalable cross-border solutions. (Greenpeak Partners)

Altius and Progeco open new cold storage facility at Port of Bilbao Progeco and Altius, part of Spain's Davila Group, have opened a new cold storage warehouse for frozen goods in the ZAD-3 area of the Port of Bilbao.

  • The facility, representing an investment of approximately €1.2 million, includes a 300 sqm antechamber for receiving, palletising, and dispatching goods, along with a 550 sqm storage area with capacity for 1,100 pallets.

  • Progeco will manage warehouse operations while Altius leads commercial activities.

  • The investment expands Progeco's cold chain footprint at the port, where the company has operated since 1985 and introduced its first cold storage facility in 2011.

  • Progeco now manages approximately 8,000 sqm of temperature controlled storage and 105,000 sqm of total logistics space across multiple port areas.

  • A second phase of development is already planned. (Container News)

Emergent Cold LatAm inaugurates the largest automated food cold storage facility in Latin America Emergent Cold LatAm has inaugurated the expansion of its Olivo facility in Maipú, Santiago, Chile, bringing total capacity to 33,000 pallet positions and making it the largest automated cold storage facility for frozen foods in both Chile and Latin America.

  • The facility features a modern automated pallet handling and storage system designed to manage large product volumes with high precision.

  • It will primarily serve retail, food service, and traditional channel companies in central Chile.

  • Alain Eichmann, Managing Director for the Andean region, cited increasing demand for temperature controlled storage and distribution solutions as a key driver of cold chain infrastructure development.

  • On the sustainability front, nearly one third of the facility holds EDGE Zero Carbon certification, with the expansion achieving EDGE Advanced certification ensuring at least 40% reductions in energy and water consumption.

  • Emergent Cold LatAm operates nine cold storage facilities across Chile with total capacity of 155,000 pallet positions. (Emergent Cold LatAm)

Mega Cold Storage Warehouse opens in Bicol, Philippines The Bicol Mega Cold Storage Warehouse, a ₱500-million (US$8.7 million) refrigerated complex, has opened in Camarines Sur as the first completed facility under the Department of Agriculture's Cold Storage Expansion Program.

  • The flagship project has an annual capacity exceeding 200,000 tons and is expected to benefit tens of thousands of farmers and consumers across the region.

  • The facility features temperature-controlled rooms designed for specific commodities including pork, beef, poultry, fish, fruits, and vegetables, along with preparation areas for blast freezing, processing, and packaging to extend shelf life and help producers meet market requirements.

  • The Department of Agriculture said additional cold chain facilities are being developed across key food-producing areas nationwide under the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act. (Business Mirror)
