News

MEDLOG to build cold storage facility at Port of Gdynia in 30-year partnership MEDLOG, the logistics arm of global shipping giant MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, has signed an agreement with the Port of Gdynia Authority for the construction and 30-year operation of a cold storage facility dedicated to refrigerated containers.

  • The investment, exceeding PLN 200 million (USD 52 million), marks the port's first such infrastructure and complements its recently completed quay-deepening programme.

  • The facility will offer 30,000 pallet positions and 20 truck loading bays across nearly 5 hectares, featuring both freezing chambers and convertible chambers capable of storing goods above 0°C.

  • Port of Gdynia Authority President Piotr Gorzeński said the project will enable containers to be unloaded directly at the port, returning empty units to shipping line circulation faster.

  • MSC Poland President Maciej Ostrowski cited market demand, particularly from meat producers seeking competitive advantages through port proximity and faster cargo handling.

  • Regional officials highlighted the project's alignment with strong agri-food sector growth and its potential to strengthen Gdynia's competitiveness among Baltic ports. (Marine Poland)

NewCold begins construction of automated cold store in Spain with 65,000 pallet positions NewCold has broken ground on its first logistics facility in Spain, located at the Noblejas Logistics Technology Park in Toledo, near Madrid.

  • The automated cold storage warehouse will feature 65,000 pallet positions and represents an investment of €100 million (USD 110 million), with an expected 60 direct jobs at full operation.

  • The facility will deploy automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), robotic picking, and ATL technology aimed at maximizing operational efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and meeting food safety standards.

  • NewCold said the site will be integrated into both its European network of automated cold storage warehouses and transport operations and its broader global network, which serves major food companies across more than a dozen countries.

  • Founder and CEO Bram Hage described the project as one of the most advanced automated cold chain centres in Europe, emphasizing the company's focus on delivering efficiency, reliability, and sustainability for its customers. (Refindustry)

LG CNS unveils logistics robot capable of operating at -15°F, accelerates North American expansion LG CNS has introduced an upgraded version of its "Mobile Shuttle" intralogistics automation robot, now capable of continuous operation in extreme cold environments as low as -15°F (-26°C).

  • The four-way shuttle system moves at speeds up to 4.9 ft/s, carries loads up to 3,307 lbs, and delivers over 30% higher storage efficiency compared to conventional two-way systems through its high-density storage design.

  • An integrated AI agent allows operators to issue natural language commands via chatbot, while mathematical optimization technology analyzes routes in real time to minimize bottlenecks.

  • The robot has secured UL certification for the US market.

  • LG CNS signed a contract in February to deploy the system at Paris Baguette USA's Texas manufacturing facility for subzero sorting of baking ingredients, and hundreds of units already operate at LG Group affiliate plants across North America. (PR Newswire)
