Notable Developments

Constellation Logistics secures planning approval in Wolverhampton Constellation Cold Logistics (CCL) has secured planning approval for a cold store of more than 100,000 sq ft at Park Lane Industrial Estate in Wolverhampton, with council planning committee members approving the application earlier this week.

  • The new facility totals 108,900 sq ft and sits alongside a 16,250 sq ft extension to CCL's existing site, with the combined proposals expected to create around 40 full-time equivalent jobs.

  • CCL, which acquired the site in 2023, said the additional space and facility upgrade were integral to remaining operational there, noting the site had not been upgraded in more than 30 years.

  • The company intends to invest some £80 million (US$108 million) in the upgrade, which will double on-site storage capacity to 40,000 pallets.

  • The new warehouse and upgraded facility are set to be operational by summer 2027. (Cold Chain News)

X-Therma launches XT-NoVo and TimeSeal platform for regenerative medicine X-Therma Inc., headquartered in Hercules, California, has commercially launched its XT-NoVo and TimeSeal platform, an end-to-end solution delivering ice-free, DMSO-free, sub-zero preservation and transport of high-value biologics.

  • The system extends the storage and transport window for sensitive cell and gene therapies, engineered tissues and advanced therapeutics from the traditional 2–4-hour hypothermic viability window to up to five days without freezing.

  • The XT-NoVo Biopreservation Solution is a defined, serum-free formulation using proprietary peptoid technology, inspired by Arctic antifreeze proteins, to prevent ice formation at −5°C, while the lightweight, power-free TimeSeal Smart Sensored Transporter provides real-time temperature tracking.

  • CEO and co-founder Dr. Xiaoxi Wei called the launch a milestone in making fresh, off-the-shelf therapies a global reality.

  • Backed by a recent oversubscribed $22.4 million Series B, X-Therma is expanding its presence in Austria. (PR Newswire)

DSV launches direct Luxembourg–Indianapolis pharma air route DSV has expanded its Air ThermoDirect solution through Indianapolis International Airport, strengthening pharmaceutical supply chains with enhanced cold chain connectivity from one of the United States' fastest-growing life sciences and healthcare logistics hubs.

  • The dedicated Luxembourg–Indianapolis connection links two critical nodes in the global pharmaceutical supply chain, creating a predictable, scalable cold chain while minimising environmental impact through optimised handling and more sustainable thermal solutions.

  • By reducing time spent in uncontrolled environments and removing the complexity of active containers, the service helps pharmaceutical companies protect product integrity while lowering total cost, emissions and operational uncertainty.

  • Kenneth Källström, Executive Vice President, Global Head, Healthcare at DSV, said the Indianapolis operations will play a pivotal role in the global Air ThermoDirect network, enhancing end-to-end visibility across pharma manufacturing regions in the US, Europe, the Americas and APAC. (DSV)

Einride and Scan Sverige partner to electrify refrigerated freight Einride AB and Scan Sverige, Sweden's leading meat producer, have partnered to electrify temperature controlled freight operations, one of the most challenging segments to decarbonise due to strict delivery schedules, high energy demands and uncompromising reliability requirements.

  • Einride is deploying electric heavy-duty trucks capable of a 64-tonne gross combined weight along the approximately 160-kilometre corridor between Linköping and Eskilstuna, a route accounting for around 25 percent of Scan Sverige's refrigerated outbound volume from its Linköping distribution centre.

  • Replacing diesel trucks is expected to cut emissions by roughly 860 tonnes of CO₂e annually.

  • The deployment combines electric vehicles, Einride's Saga AI optimisation software and integrated charging, with depot charging at Linköping and opportunity charging during mandated driver rest periods.

  • CEO Roozbeh Charli highlighted rising demand for scalable, fossil-free freight in regulated, high-volume supply chains, while Scan Sverige Chief Sustainability Officer Elina Matsdotter called Einride strategically important to the company's transition. (PR Newswire)

Cold Chain Technologies expands EcoFlex reusable parcel services into Europe Cold Chain Technologies (CCT) has made EcoFlex, its family of high-performance reusable parcel shippers for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, available across Europe, supported by a hub-led operating model and dedicated Centres of Excellence.

  • Designed for regional and last-mile pharmaceutical distribution, EcoFlex offers reusable temperature controlled shippers through a leasing model that lowers cost per use, reduces storage requirements and supports sustainability goals, achieving a fossil fuel use reduction of up to 60.3% versus a standard shipper.

  • The offering is underpinned by CCT C.A.R.E and the ReNew program, an end-to-end ecosystem managing returns, reverse logistics and refurbishment, alongside digital tools including a "Track Your Landfill Avoidance" dashboard for ESG reporting.

  • European coverage spans the UK, Netherlands and Ireland. (CAAS)
