BGF leads £17.3M investment in Sunswap to drive decarbonisation in cold chain logistics Sunswap, a UK-based clean-tech startup, has successfully raised £17.3M in a funding round aimed at advancing the decarbonization of cold chain logistics.

  • Led by BGF, the round also saw participation from notable investors such as Shell Ventures, Move Energy, and existing backers including Barclays and Clean Growth Fund.

  • Sunswap's flagship product, the "Endurance" Transport Refrigeration Unit, is a fully electric solution that integrates advanced battery technology, solar power, and rapid charging features.

  • This technology is designed to replace traditional diesel-powered refrigeration units, providing a sustainable alternative without sacrificing performance or cost-effectiveness.

  • The funding will be utilized to expand production capabilities, enhance the nationwide service network, and further develop the company's technology.

  • Sunswap has already conducted successful commercial trials with industry leaders such as Tesco and Muller, and it boasts a growing order book that includes major logistics players like TIP Group and DFDS. (link)

Stef subsidiary Langdons acquires Long Lane Deliveries Langdons, a subsidiary of STEF Group, has recently acquired Long Lane Deliveries, a Scottish transport and logistics company, in a move announced on August 26, 2024.

  • Long Lane Deliveries, founded in 2002, is a family-run business specializing in the transport of chilled, frozen, and ambient food products throughout Scotland and the UK.

  • With a workforce of 330 and a fleet of 140 vehicles, the company operates from two sites: Bellshill near Glasgow and Dundee.

  • Langdons, which became part of the STEF Group in 2022, is a key player in temperature-controlled food transport in the UK, employing 1,400 people and managing a fleet of 750 vehicles across eight sites.

  • The acquisition is expected to strengthen Langdons' ability to serve food manufacturers, retailers, and out-of-home suppliers, while expanding STEF's geographical reach, particularly in Scotland. (link)

Global Cold Chain Foundation launches Cold Chain Institute in Europe The Global Cold Chain Foundation has recently launched the Cold Chain Institute (CCI) in Europe, marking a significant step in advancing cold chain education and professional development across the continent.

  • This initiative aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the temperature-controlled logistics sector.

  • The CCI offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance knowledge and expertise in various aspects of cold chain management.

  • The institute's programs cover essential topics such as temperature monitoring, regulatory compliance, and emerging technologies in cold chain logistics.

  • One of the key features of the CCI's approach is its emphasis on practical, hands-on learning experiences.

  • The institute collaborates with industry partners to ensure that its training programs reflect real-world challenges and best practices in cold chain management.
