Japan's Mitsui Fudosan, others to invest $3.5B in cold storage Japan's largest property developer Mitsui Fudosan, along with logistics firm GLP Japan and other Japanese companies, are planning to invest over 500B yen ($3.5B) in cold storage facilities by 2030.

  • This significant investment comes in response to the increasing demand for additional warehouses amid tight cold storage supply and rising market demand for frozen foods.

  • Mitsui Fudosan aims to invest approximately 100B yen, primarily focusing on the greater Tokyo area.

  • Other major developers, including Mitsubishi Estate, Tokyo Tatemono, and Tokyu Fudosan Holdings, are also preparing to enter this growing market.

  • GLP Japan plans to almost double the current total floor area of its cold chain warehouses reaching about 430,000 square meters by 2028.

  • This collective effort by Japanese companies aims to address the logistical challenges in the cold chain sector and meet the growing demand for refrigerated and frozen storage facilities. (link)

ABI Research ranks Powerfleet as the world's No.1 commercial cold chain solution Powerfleet, Inc. has been ranked as the world's number one commercial cold chain solution provider by ABI Research.

Tracking perishable foods in the supply chain using chain of things technology (scientific report) This study addresses the complexities of Perishable Food Supply Chains, which face challenges due to their multi-tier structure and the dynamic nature of the food industry.

  • In addition to managing disruptions, the industry must also consider social and environmental impacts, which adds complexity to supply chain design and performance.

  • Digitalization and Blockchain technology (BCT) offer potential solutions to these challenges, particularly for tracking perishable goods, but face limitations such as privacy, security concerns, and scalability issues.

  • The authors propose a new system, the Chain of Things-based Track and Trace System, which integrates the Internet of Things, BCT, and an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS).

  • The new system was evaluated through a case study using the EOSIO platform, assessing the system in terms of transaction depth, breadth, access, and precision.

  • The research highlights how combining IoT with blockchain improves tracking, offering a promising solution for modernizing and optimizing Perishable Food Supply Chains management. (report)
