Frontier Scientific Solutions to launch $1.5B life sciences gateway with Free Trade Zones in US and Ireland Frontier Scientific Solutions announced plans to develop state-of-the-art cGMP facilities at airports in Wilmington, NC (ILM) and Shannon, Ireland (SNN), backed by a $1.5 billion commitment from GID.
This initiative creates the first life sciences-dedicated direct global gateway between North America and Europe for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.
Both facilities will operate as Free Trade Zones, offering streamlined customs processing and operational efficiencies.
The facilities will feature temperature-controlled storage with direct runway access, and operations are set to begin early next year.
The project includes air and sea transportation options, with a 12-day ocean lane from North Carolina to Cork.
This development positions Wilmington as a key logistics hub, particularly given its proximity to Research Triangle Park and the NC Port. (link)
GLP Japan prepares for cold storage demand GLP Japan is gearing up for a surge in cold storage demand driven by the booming e-commerce sector.
Yoshiyuki Chosa, president of GLP Capital Partners Japan, identified cold storage as the major warehouse trend for 2025 in Japan during the Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum.
The company plans to nearly double its cold storage facilities, reaching 430,000 sq. m. by 2028.
Construction has already begun on two fully refrigerated warehouses in the Kansai region, while 22 existing warehouses have been retrofitted for frozen and refrigerated use.
GLP sees the cold storage sector as ripe for modernization, similar to the warehouse industry two decades ago.
The e-commerce boom is fueling unprecedented demand for efficient warehouse space capable of handling diverse products. (link)
DFDS orders Sunswap zero-emission refrigerated trailers DFDS has placed an order for 10 Sunswap Endurance zero-emission refrigerated trailers, marking the official commercial launch of Sunswap's technology into the global cold chain market.
This move follows successful trials in 2022 that demonstrated significant environmental and cost benefits.
The Sunswap Endurance combines solar panels and battery power to keep goods cold during transport, replacing traditional diesel-powered units.
The technology has shown potential to remove 895 tonnes of CO2 over a ten-year unit lifetime, save 500,000 liters of diesel fuel, and reduce operating costs by 71%.
This partnership aligns with DFDS's ambitious emission reduction targets and positions them as leaders in sustainable cold chain logistics.
Both companies' executives have emphasized the significance of this partnership in reducing carbon footprints and revolutionizing transport refrigeration. (link)
BGO Cold Chain acquires Miami cold storage warehouse BGO Cold Chain has acquired Medley Cold Logistics, a 178,000 sq. ft. cold storage facility in Miami, currently leased to Quirch Foods.
This acquisition adds to BGO's expanding Florida portfolio, which includes their 2023 purchase of SkyChefs Cold Storage and three development projects in Tampa and Jacksonville.
The Medley facility features 116,000 sq. ft. of freezer space, 32 ft. clear heights, and 29 loading docks, strategically located near Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami.
Jonathan Epstein, managing partner and global head of BGO Cold Chain, emphasizes the acquisition's importance in delivering value through their expertise in the specialized cold storage sector.
The property, situated on 15 acres, offers expansion potential and joins BGO's global portfolio of over 70 cold storage assets. (link)
CJ Logistics America opens new cold storage warehouse in Georgia CJ Logistics America has opened a new 270,000 sq. ft. cold storage warehouse in Gainesville, Georgia, strategically located in the heart of the poultry production region.
The facility features Alta EXPERT Refrigeration Systems and QFM blast freezing technology, capable of reaching desired temperatures within 24 hours.
With 30,000 racked pallet positions and three separate storage rooms for different product types (finished goods, bakery items, and proteins), the warehouse offers comprehensive storage solutions.
The facility includes a USDA office and inspection room on-site and provides convenient access to major transportation routes, including I-985, I-85, and the Norfolk Southern railway system.
