Bannister Transport to transition to 100% electric refrigerated trailer fleet Sunswap, the creator of the world's first battery and solar-powered transport refrigeration unit (Endurance), has partnered with Bannister Transport to supply them with the world's first 100% electric zero-emission refrigerated trailer fleet. Bannister Transport plans to transition their entire 40-trailer fleet to Sunswap's Endurance units over the next two years. The successful trial demonstrated how the battery and solar-powered refrigeration system seamlessly integrated into Bannister Transport's chilled delivery operations while reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency. The long-term environmental impact is significant, with projections indicating that the Sunswap units will remove thousands of tons of CO2 and NOx emissions. Bannister Transport aims to replace its diesel-powered trailer fleet by September 2025. (link)

Optimizing cold chain logistics in the world of cell and gene therapies In the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, cell and gene therapies (CGTs) have emerged as revolutionary treatments offering hope to patients with previously incurable diseases. However, the success of CGTs hinges on maintaining integrity through the supply chain, a task made daunting by the extreme temperature sensitivity of these therapies. Cryogenic temperatures are essential for maintaining viability and effectiveness. To achieve this, specialized packaging equipment called dry shippers, which can maintain cryogenic temperatures, are used. The logistics process also incorporates real-time tracking, meticulous record-keeping, and compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. As cell and gene therapies become more mainstream, temperature control logistics will continue to evolve to ensure successful treatments. (link)
